Who Wins if it Rains on Election Day?

Pundits are busy forecasting the election. But it’s the actual weather forecast that could influence the outcome in swing states for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton on Election Day.

For every inch-above-average Election Day rainfall in a county, the GOP presidential candidate received a 2.5 percent boost in the polls between, according to a 2007 study in The Journal of Politics based on data between the 1948 and 2000 elections.

Why? Low-income minorities tend to vote Democratic and are more sensitive to voting obstacles, said study co-author Thomas Hansford, associated professor at the University of California, Merced.

“As a result, it becomes a game-time decision for them whether they’re going to vote or not,” Hansford said.

So for this upcoming Tuesday it looks like there will not be a 2.5 percent boost for the Republican Candidate here as we are forecasting overcast skies with temperatures into the upper 60’s across the Hoosier State.
